Vibrating Mascara from Maybelline?

I think Maybelline is over the top with this one. I'm just not sure what a vibrating mascara wand is going to do for my lashes. Maybelline's new Pulse Perfection by Define-a-Lash Vibrating Mascara has the same claims as any other mascara: long-wearing, clump-free, lifted and separated lashes. I suppose the vibration helps distribute the mascara evenly so you get perfect lashes. You can't buy it in stores, yet. It's only available online exclusively at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS. Walmart's price is $12.88 plus tax and 97-cent shipping. That's about $6 or $7 more than what I usually pay. I'm not sure that it's worth it. Considering how infrequently I wear masacara (try Sunday for church), I think I'll have to pass on this fad.

The Last Straw Prevents Juice Box Spills

Today's Atlanta Journal Constitution had a neat story on the entrepreneurial journey of the inventor of The Last Straw. How many times have your kids squirted juice everywhere when putting the straw in their juice boxes? The Last Straw eliminates the mess by adding a valve to allow juice to flow only when the child is sucking on the straw. Pretty ingenious. Know the Historical Release Dates for Deals at Walt Disney World

The discounts offered by Walt Disney World on its vacation packages seem to follow a historical trend. There is usually a limited number of packages available for a given discount code, so if you want to snag one for the dates you want to travel, you need to be on top of the game.

Mousesavers.com has a great chart listing the past release dates for various Disney World discounts. Although there's no guarantee that Disney will follow its historical pattern, there's a good chance that if a package deal was released last year at this time, a similar deal will be released this year at the same time.

If you can call to book your vacation as soon as the deal is released, you stand a better chance of getting the hotel you want during the dates you want. Familiarize yourself with the chart, and start checking for deals around the time of their anticipated release date.

Know the Discount Codes for Savings on Walt Disney World Vacations

Disney World offers various discounts on Disney hotel stays and vacation packages throughout the year. With the right discount code, you can potentially save a lot. In my experience, travel agents are not always aware of these discount codes, so you may miss out if you rely solely on your agent's advice. At the time I booked our last Disney vacation, my agent did not know that there was a free dining promotion, so I would have missed out on a huge savings opportunity if I had not been a savvy consumer and educated myself about the codes.

MouseSavers.com is a great source for Disney World information, and they publish the discount codes as soon as Disney releases them. Study the codes, and be sure to ask your travel agent whether you are receiving the best deal. There are room only deals for savings on just the hotel stay at a Disney property, and there are package deals for vacation packages that include hotel, park tickets, and/or dining.

For example, right now, with code RYH, you can get the dining plan added for free to any full price vacation package that includes at least 3 consecutive hotel nights at a Walt Disney world resort plus at least a one-day theme park ticket. For the average family of four (2 adults, 2 kids ages 3-9) that's worth $101.96 per day.

(Almost) Free Disney Vacation?

This past November, we took our first real family vacation. We've traveled with the kids before, but it's always been to visit family in Texas and Florida (we're in Atlanta).

A little after our son was born, I got a Disney Rewards^® VISA^®card. For five years, we used that card for almost every purchase we made: groceries, gas, bills - everything. In return, we amassed enough Disney Rewards^® to pay for most of our vacation. And we had a nice one, at that. Now, we did get a deal (I scoured the web for the best), but our vacation included seven days at a moderate Disney property (Port Orleans Riverside), seven days of tickets, and the dining plan. We would not have taken such an extravagant vacation if it had not been for the rewards points. Our Disney Rewards^® covered about 80% of the total cost. We could have gone for completely free if we had opted for a value Disney hotel, but we figured after five years of waiting for a vacation, we could afford a little splurge.

Now, I understand that there are those who have problems with credit cards. If you don't pay off your balance, then the rewards cards just aren't worth it. The interest charges will negate any rewards you accrue, and you aren't being a savvy consumer. My husband and I have always been very diligent about paying off our credit cards and not carrying a balance, so they work for us.
